Dust MitesThe first official day of spring is days away, and you’re already noticing the change in the air. The weather is warming up, flowers are blooming, and your allergies are starting to flare. Spring allergies can be some of the most intense allergies due to pollen, dust, and dust mites. Fortunately, there are ways you can be a step ahead of your allergies!

Check out these tips for an enjoyable spring cleaning session:

Eliminate Dust Mites

Dust mites are tiny creatures that enjoy living in plush, soft areas such as bedding and carpet. Since they’re microscopic, they’re invisible to the naked eye. And, unfortunately, they eat flakes of skin that fall from people and animals. Since no one wants to share their home with dust mites, consider these tips to eliminate dust mites: wash your bedding regularly in hot water, opt for hardwood floors instead of carpets, avoid letting your pets sleep in your room, and vacuum multiple times a week.

Clean Dust the Right Way

Dust is a huge source of irritation for allergy-sufferers everywhere. Frustratingly, dust settles and sits for months during winter. So, when you open your windows to let the fresh spring breeze come in, dust flies everywhere. Before letting in the breeze, use a microfiber cloth or Lysol wipe to trap dust instead of using feather dusters that push dust around.

Remove Standing Water

Standing water in or around a home is a source for allergies and issues. Not only is it bad for your home, it’s bad for your health! Standing water attracts pesky insects and can cause mold to grow. This spring, carve out a few hours to thoroughly search your home for leaky pipes or faucets. Then, seal them up to avoid any allergy upset.
