Whether you are the host or the guest, there are steps you can take to make sure you have a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.
Food Allergies: When You’re the Guest
When you’re a guest at a Thanksgiving party, you don’t want to come off rude or ungrateful, however bringing your own food is probably the safest route. Let your host know that you’ll be bringing your own food for your kiddo with food allergies. Offer to bring a dessert or appetizer (that is allergen free!) as a way to help out during the festivities. Consider these mouth-watering dishes:
- Fruit kabobs
- Mashed potatoes
- Use chicken broth instead of milk and safe margarine instead of butter!
- Salad
- Sweet potatoes
- Use safe milk alternative or chicken broth, add safe margarine, then top with brown sugar and cinnamon
- Veggies with a safe dip
Food Allergies: When You’re the Host
When you’re a host for Thanksgiving, there is much less concern about unsafe food being served to your kiddo—since you’re the cook! If you choose to make separate food for your child, make sure to follow these simple tips:
- Prepared all safe food then prepare all unsafe food
- Remind your guests of your child’s food allergy
- Use separate serving utensils
Dr. Langford can help you determine any food allergies you or your child may have. Schedule an appointment today!
