Give Out Non-Traditional Treats

Kids expect candy when they ring the doorbell and yell “trick or treat!” So, why not mix it up and let them choose from a bowl full of toys? These toys can range in variety from slinkies to bouncy balls, and spider rings to coloring books. Many Halloween-themed toys can be found at your local dollar store for an inexpensive price.

Take Part in the Teal Pumpkin Project

The Teal Pumpkin Project not only raises awareness about food allergies in children, but it also provides a safe opportunity for kids who suffer with food allergies to enjoy Halloween! Simply put a teal pumpkin in your yard or on your front porch, and have toys available for kids who can’t have candy. The teal pumpkin symbolizes that you have allergy-free treats available.

Give Out Allergen-Free Candy

Many candies have at least one of the following allergens in them: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, or soy. To avoid any potential allergic reactions, buy candy that is free of allergens. According to the Bay Area Allergy Advisory Board, allergen-free candies that you could give away this year include Dum Dum Lollipops, Ring Pops, Skittles, Smarties, Starbursts, Jelly Belly Jellybeans, Swedish Fish, and Nerds.
