Each year, May is dedicated to bringing awareness and education about two important health issues in America – asthma and allergies. At Langford Allergy, we believe that with a personalized treatment plan and education, patients can take control of their frustrating allergy issue and overwhelming asthma diagnosis. Let’s dive into what asthma and allergies are and how our team can help:
Understanding Asthma & Available Treatment Options
Asthma is a lung disease, causing inflammation of the airways. Understandably, when your airways are inflamed, this makes it much harder for the lungs to take in enough air. This disease may be uncurable at the moment, but that doesn’t mean that treatment options aren’t available to allow you to take control!
Dr. Langford can discuss how to manage asthmatic symptoms, use an inhaler, avoid asthma triggers, and create an Asthma Action Plan. Education is key to fully grasp what asthma entails and how you can stay healthy.
“I was diagnosed with asthma at the age of 31, so I can empathize with a frustrating adulthood diagnosis.” – Dr. Jeff Langford
Understanding Allergies & Available Treatment Options
Allergies embody a wide variety of conditions such as eye and nasal allergies, eczema, skin allergies, hay fever, food allergies, and more. If you have one or all these issues, you likely experience frustrating symptoms daily, and your everyday activities are difficult to enjoy! Symptoms are produced by histamine in the body, a chemical that tries to protect your immune system.
What can be done about it?
Through immunotherapy, also known as allergy shots, your body can be taught not to produce so much histamine and accept the particle as harmless.
“As someone who has struggled with allergies my whole life, I understand the frustration first-hand and I have experienced how life-changing it is to benefit from treatment. I am passionate about putting together an individualized treatment plan for each of my patients to help them get back to what they love doing and can live the life they’ve always wanted.” – Dr. Jeff Langford
