It’s time for goblins and ghosts, tricks and treats, and fun for all! One thing it’s not time for is troublesome food allergy reactions. If you have a child who has food allergies and you’re worried about celebrating Halloween, allow us to introduce you to the Teal Pumpkin Project.
What is the Teal Pumpkin Project?
The Teal Pumpkin Project was started to provide safe, non-food treats to people with food allergies or disabilities. This Project continually stands for inclusion, community, and awareness. It is important for kids and adults alike to be aware of the food allergies that affect millions of children, do our part to include them in this festive holiday, and – in turn – participate as a community.
How can I participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project?
If you want to avoid handing out candy because you are unsure about allergies, we encourage you to provide trick-or-treaters with unconventional treats such as:
- Activity pads
- Bubbles
- Glow sticks
- Magnets
- Slinkies
- Stickers
- Temporary tattoos
Remember to put a teal pumpkin in your yard or on your porch so children with allergies know you have non-food items available.
How can I get others involved?
First, let them know that you are participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project. You can do this by making posts on social media or handing out flyers. To take it a step further, you could throw a pumpkin painting event! Set up pumpkins in your front yard, grab some teal paint, and start painting. Others can join you and you can talk about how to make this Halloween special for kids with allergies.
How Langford Allergy Can Help With Food Allergies
We encourage people to participate in holiday-friendly activities – such as the Teal Pumpkin Project – to promote inclusion for those who suffer from food allergies. However, we ultimately want you to be free of your food allergies for good! Call us today to schedule an appointment: 478-787-4728.
