What does a skin allergy look like?
Your reaction will depend on which skin allergy you are dealing with – hives, eczema, angioedema, or allergic contact dermatitis. The following are symptoms associated with each:
- Hives produce raised, red and white bumps on the skin’s surface
- Eczema produces an itchy, red rash or scaly patches of skin
- Angioedema produces swelling of the deep layers of the skin
- Allergic contact dermatitis produces an itchy, red rash
Is my rash related to a food allergy?
Rashes often occur due to the overreaction of your immune system. It is very possible that your rash is related to a food allergy, but a skin prick test or allergy test would need to be done to determine the exact cause. Fortunately, food allergies can be treated through immunotherapy, which ultimately will eliminate your rash.
Can the sun make my rash worse?
Excessive exposure to UV rays without proper protection can cause your rash to get irritated and further your discomfort. When you’re outside, wear loose clothing that covers your rash from exposure to UV rays. Tight clothing can aggravate your rash. Be mindful of certain sunscreens, as they can also cause your rash to worsen.
